Socrates 3 Questions aka Triple-filter Test:
Is it true?
Toss aside the arguments about whether we can know if anything is true, and we have to deal with the reality of the situation. As instructional designers we only want to be dealing in truth. It is ok for information to be wrong at times, but it should never be deliberately wrong or misleading.
Is it good?
At first this may seem to invalidate the entire idea of criticism and improvement, but we are not suggesting that you only hear good news. It is however important that the content created is designed to do good and not cause harm. For instance a community awareness project about the homeless should be designed to spread awareness and not fear.
Is it useful?
Not everything we learn, even if it is both true and good, is actually useful to us in our daily lives or creative endeavors. Instructional design that is focused on making each element of a training program useful to the audience is the ideal.
